Point Clear-ing Our Minds

Terry and I spent a night this week at the fabulous Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama this week. As a former civil war hospital, the historic hotel originally opened in the 1840s and is rumored to be haunted. It is located on the Mobile Bay in Baldwin County. We had been on the grounds before, but had never actually stayed a night. We opted for one of the Larger Guest Rooms in the Spa Building (one of the newer buildings), and it did not disappoint. We had two balconies, one of which overlooked the bay (that’s the view in the top photo). The other overlooked the Robert Trent Jones designed golf course.

We had breakfast at the more formal of the two restaurants the hotel offers. The food and service (and view!) were impeccable.

I had the Signature Lump Crab Scramble, which is featured on the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die list put out by the Alabama Department of Tourism. It was fantastic. It comes with your choice of grits or potatoes. I went with potatoes, which is a delicious mixture of regular and sweet potatoes.

The reason for our brief visit was a job interview that I had in nearby Mobile. I accepted the job and we will be making the move from Montgomery to Fairhope this summer! Stay tuned for our farewell tour to Montgomery, and our journey to get to know our new home! This was the answer to a lot of prayers, and we are both beyond grateful to everyone for praying for us and encouraging us!

I broke out the Waterford flutes from our wedding and some champagne (given to me by a sweet co-worker) to celebrate. If you like a sparkling rosé, I would definitely recommend this one from Moet & Chandon, although it’s on the pricier side. You can order online, but not in Alabama. Stay tuned for our upcoming adventurers in becoming a coastal Southern, Prep & Chic (Southern, Prep & Coastal? Who knows?)!

  1. How exciting! I know y’all will love that! We’ve only stayed one night at The Grand, but we had an absolute blast. Even at this age, we’ve thrown Fairhope on the list of places to which we would like to retire. 🙂

    CONGRATS!
